A newsletter about reinvention & lifestyle design.
Dispatches from traveling full-time, breaking free from default paths, and imagining a more expansive way of living.
For the first three decades of my life, I followed the default path perfectly.
Not to brag, but I did exactly what I was told. 😌 I went to school, got good grades, married young, and secured a 9-to-5. I probably could have continued that way forever, if not for the saving grace of divorce and deconstruction.
On my own for the first time, the question became: “What kind of life do I want for myself?” I had no practice even asking that question, let alone answering it. I needed to do some data collection first.
I decided to prototype my life through a series of lifestyle experiments.
I would methodically uncover what I liked, what I didn’t, and what kind of life I might want to build for myself. Each experiment was a data point. Nothing was off-limits. I’ll try anything twice (except marriage, once was enough for that).
I sold all my things, went leaseless, and bought a one-way ticket out of the country. Since then, I’ve traveled solo, lived abroad and roadtripped across the US, alone and with people. I stopped drinking, got strong, and talked to strangers. I started writing my first book. I released old beliefs, retired default societal scripts, and created my own blueprint for a fulfilling life.
Along the way, I tapped into a vibrant community of people who are asking the same questions — both in real life and here on Substack. I hope you’ll join us. Yeehaw! 🤠
